At the start of the week, Bitcoin showed signs of decoupling from US equities. However, US president Trump's positive remarks about the US-China trade war (which had included a 145% tariff on Chinese goods) triggered a relief rally across markets. As a result, BTC has resumed moving up with US equities. 

This rally has led to a rise in short-tenor implied volatility and a recovery in BTC’s put-call skew, indicating that traders are seeking upside exposure.

Perp open interest rises across the board

Perpetual open interest increased significantly this week across various tokens, especially ETH. Perpetual trading volumes also rose. Notably, Ap 7, 2025 recorded the highest trade volume of the month, following Trump's comment, "Forget markets for a second, we have all the advantages."

BTC option open interest shows a mixed picture; put-call skew in short tenor sends positive signals

President Trump’s recent willingness to negotiate a trade deal with China’s President Xi triggered a relief rally across asset classes, including crypto. Bitcoin had already risen 7% since Apr 21, 2025, prior to Trump's comments. Despite this rally, open interest in puts has outpaced calls, with options volume remaining relatively balanced. 

It's unclear if the demand for puts reflects a hedge against downside risks, or a bet against the upward movement. Meanwhile, perpetual funding rates are providing limited insight into sentiment. However, the recovery of the put-call skew at short tenors indicates that traders are seeking upside exposure to the rally — and are willing to pay for it.

ETH unexpectedly outperforms BTC in this relief rally

ETH's response to the recent crypto market recovery has diverged from previous trends: it outperformed BTC in spot prices, a rarity in past rallies, and open interest in calls exceeds that in puts — opposite to BTC's trend. In addition, ETH call open interest is nearly double that of puts, with calls dominating options volumes. This suggests traders anticipate ETH will reduce its significant underperformance against both BTC and other “ETH killers” like SUI and SOL. Additionally, the spot rally has led to another term structure inversion for ETH.

The protocol layer includes a trio of critical protocols — the Fans Protocol, Epal Fan Token (FT) Exchange Protocol and Asset Protocol. As an investor, you may be wondering, what makes certain NFTs priced higher than the rest, especially when they all come from the same collection? In an attempt to provide an objective way of defining an NFT’s worth, the industry has come up with the concepts of rarity scores, rankings, and tools. In this article, we cover everything related to this topic.

 of an NFT has always been difficult to estimate objectively. Similar to traditional works of art, NFTs are unique items. As such, determining a fair market value for an NFT is not among the easiest tasks. If an NFT is created by a famous artist, it may be easier to determine its value, but if you’re looking at an NFT collection such as Azuki, how exactly do you decide which 

This is where the concept of NFT Rarity comes in. The rarity of an NFT within a collection is typically derived based on the rarity of its components/traits.

There is no single NFT Rarity Score calculation method that could be considered an “industry standard.” Different NFT platforms may have their own calculation methods.

There are, however, several common rarity score calculation approaches. Below, we briefly outline the four most frequently used among these.

Every NFT is typically made up of several or many traits, also referred to as features or attributes. The rarest trait method is pretty simple – it assigns a rarity rank to an NFT based on its rarest trait. The rarer that leading trait is, the higher the overall rarity rank.

At first sight, it seems logical to base the rarity on an NFT’s champion trait. However, this method only looks at the rarest trait of an NFT without a deeper look at each individual rare trait, which can make the calculation flawed. For instance, an NFT with many quite rare traits will be deemed less valuable under this method than another NFT that features only a single extremely rare trait and a bunch of very common traits.

This method is based on a simple average of all the individual traits. For instance, if an NFT has two traits, with trait one having an average trait rarity of 20% and trait two having an average trait rarity of 10%, the overall average rarity for the NFT will be 15% ([20% + 10%] / 2). Yet, this method is also limited in that it only looks at the overall trait rarity without considering the rarity of a single trait.

Another calculation method is based on the statistical rarity of each trait in an NFT which is computed by multiplying the individual traits’ scores. An NFT with two traits, one with a 20% rarity and the other one with a 10% rarity, will have an overall score of 2% (20% * 10%) under this method. Like the average traits method, it also overemphasizes the total rarity of traits.

 is one of the leading NFT rarity ranking and scoring platforms. To overcome the limitations of the above calculation methods, its founder has a way of calculating NFT rarity ranking which takes into consideration both single traits and overall traits, known as the 

. Using this method, first, you will determine a score for each trait individually based on the formula below:

[Rarity Score for a Trait Value] = 1 / ([Number of Items with that Trait Value] / [Total Number of Items in the Collection])

You then sum up all the individual scores to arrive at the overall NFT rarity score. The higher the number, the rarer and, thus, more valuable the NFT is. 

In late 2022, there is no shortage of NFT ranking and scoring platforms that can help you decide on the rarity of an NFT without you having to do your own calculations. These platforms are often referred to as rarity tools. Below, we will cover the 17 best rarity tools in the market.

For each NFT, the platform shows the overall rarity score and individual rarity scores per trait. You can filter NFTs within a collection by price and rank.

Icy.tools sources NFT data from the Ethereum blockchain and from the OpenSea marketplace. In addition to OpenSea, depending on the collection, the platform might also link to other marketplaces to facilitate NFT purchases. These include Infinity, LooksRare, Genie (which was acquired by
