Weekly highlight — US-Sino trade conflicts cool down

China is considering suspending its 125% tariff on certain US imports, including medical equipment and industrial chemicals like ethane, due to the economic impact of the trade war. Discussions are also underway to waive tariffs on aircraft leases, which are financially burdensome for airlines.

This potential move has boosted investor optimism, with Asian shares rising and the yuan recovering losses. Analysts view this as a step toward de-escalation, although significant differences between the US and China remain.

The proposed exemptions align with recent US tariff exclusions on electronics, highlighting the intertwined nature of the two economies. Chinese companies reliant on US goods, such as advanced medical equipment and ethane, have reported some shipments arriving without tariffs.

While the list of potential exemptions is still being finalized, authorities have requested companies submit customs codes for necessary goods. Reports suggest China may also waive tariffs on at least eight semiconductor-related products, excluding memory chips, which could impact companies such as Micron Technology.

Overall, while investor interest grows, relations between the two nations still face challenges, with China demanding the US revoke unilateral tariffs before resuming trade talks.

Traders have heavily invested in Cantor Equity Partners Inc, a blank-check company merging with Twenty One Capital Inc., which is backed by Tether, Bitfinex and SoftBank. Since the April 22 merger announcement, Cantor's stock has surged 197%, closing at $31.50 on Friday.

The merger includes a convertible debt offering, potentially leading to a market capitalization of about $12 billion that would far exceed the estimated $4 billion value of the Bitcoin it’s expected to hold. This would reflect strong demand for crypto-related investments.

Analysts note that investing in such vehicles is akin to betting on Bitcoin's growth. Public special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) shareholders are projected to own 2.7% of the new company, while major stakeholders like Tether and SoftBank will have substantial shares. Overall, the market is optimistic about this collaboration in the digital asset space.

Weekly Institutional Insights: Trade conflicts cool down as crypto SPAC sees popularity

Our weekly crypto derivatives analytics report delves into macro events; the current state of crypto and trading signals from spot trading volume; and futures, options and perpetual contracts.

At the start of the week, Bitcoin showed signs of decoupling from US equities. However, US president Trump's positive remarks about the US-China trade war (which had included a 145% tariff on Chinese goods) triggered a relief rally across markets. As a result, BTC has resumed moving up with US equities. 

This rally has led to a rise in short-tenor implied volatility and a recovery in BTC’s put-call skew, indicating that traders are seeking upside exposure.

Perp open interest rises across the board

Perpetual open interest increased significantly this week across various tokens, especially ETH. Perpetual trading volumes also rose. Notably, Ap 7, 2025 recorded the highest trade volume of the month, following Trump's comment, "Forget markets for a second, we have all the advantages."

BTC option open interest shows a mixed picture; put-call skew in short tenor sends positive signals

President Trump’s recent willingness to negotiate a trade deal with China’s President Xi triggered a relief rally across asset classes, including crypto. Bitcoin had already risen 7% since Apr 21, 2025, prior to Trump's comments. Despite this rally, open interest in puts has outpaced calls, with options volume remaining relatively balanced. 

It's unclear if the demand for puts reflects a hedge against downside risks, or a bet against the upward movement. Meanwhile, perpetual funding rates are providing limited insight into sentiment. However, the recovery of the put-call skew at short tenors indicates that traders are seeking upside exposure to the rally — and are willing to pay for it.

ETH unexpectedly outperforms BTC in this relief rally

ETH's response to the recent crypto market recovery has diverged from previous trends: it outperformed BTC in spot prices, a rarity in past rallies, and open interest in calls exceeds that in puts — opposite to BTC's trend. In addition, ETH call open interest is nearly double that of puts, with calls dominating options volumes. This suggests traders anticipate ETH will reduce its significant underperformance against both BTC and other “ETH killers” like SUI and SOL. Additionally, the spot rally has led to another term structure inversion for ETH.

These intelligent assistants are now helping individuals and businesses analyze markets, create textual and visual content, automate work processes and trade profitably.

There's a further area where AI agents on the blockchain are flourishing: the world of

Balance isn’t just another obscure crypto gaming platform. The origins of the project date back to 2020, when the E-Pal social gaming provider was launched by four young California-based technology entrepreneurs — Brian Xiong, Tung Pham, Yuzhe Norris Wang and Yuanzhe Li. E-Pal quickly became a leading force in the newly emerging social gaming field, helping players worldwide find gaming companions. By early 2024, E-Pal had become the world’s largest gaming companion platform, boasting 4.2 million users and 450,000 Epals (gaming companions).

In February 2024, the E-Pal team focused its efforts on

Per the project’s documentation, the platform operates on its own chain, Balance Chain, with

A key part of the Balance ecosystem is Key Nodes — purchasable 

 that help with the processing, storage and distribution of data required in the resource-intensive environment of web3 gaming. Some applied instances are the management of real-time leaderboards and the automatic distribution of loot and in-game currency. These nodes can also support the computational requirements of training AI models. As a reward for their work in supporting the platform’s operations, Key Nodes receive a wide range of rewards and benefits, including distributions of EPT tokens, the platform’s native cryptocurrency.

As the ecosystem develops, Key Nodes are envisioned to be involved in governance, 

 launch in September 2024, Balance introduced its Points System, designed to reward early contributors to the platform. During the campaign run in September, users could earn points by completing various specified tasks in various activities, such as joining the project’s social media pages or commenting and reposting.

The 400 users with the best performance in the Points System earned a whitelist spot to receive Pioneer Badge NFTs — distinct tokens that provide owners with early access to games, future campaigns, airdrops and beta testing opportunities. Pioneer Badge NFT holders can also enjoy other benefits, such as premium NFTs and voting rights on the Balance platform.

Balance’s platform provides a set of tools to create and use intelligent companions for Balance-based games. You can design your AI companions by specifying their key traits and behaviors through custom prompts and strategies. The AI agents on Balance can assist you in battles, gaming contests, learning, routine task execution and interactive entertainment.

Balance’s platform is made up of five key layers, each one serving a specific purpose in supporting its user and developer communities. At the top of the architectural stack is the application layer, which acts as the main interface for users to interact with human and AI companions and the wider Balance community.

The application layer also contains the AI Battle Reporting System, which is designed to give users feedback and analysis tools on their performance in the platform’s gaming ecosystem. AI technology is leveraged here to provide personalized analytics and performance improvement recommendations.

A range of NFTs are also part of the layer. These include in-game asset NFTs, as well as 

 (SBTs) that serve as summaries of the holder’s achievements.

The platform layer hosts the various games within the Balance gaming universe. These include both internal games and third-party games that have partnered with Balance. The key concept uniting all of the games is the active integration of AI companions and AI players, making the platform a unique environment in which humans and AI agents play, interact and compete.

The platform layer also features an AI-driven NFT launchpad that offers a rich tool set for creating personalized NFTs for games and applications. These NFTs can be traded on Balance's NFT marketplace, which is also an integral part of the platform layer.

The protocol layer includes a trio of critical protocols — the Fans Protocol, Epal Fan Token (FT) Exchange Protocol and Asset Protocol. The Fans Protocol lets players launch and manage their Fan Tokens, creating opportunities for influencers and community builders to tokenize their efforts and launch high-potential crypto assets. Meanwhile, the Epal FT Exchange Protocol facilitates the management of (and trade in) Fan Tokens.

The third protocol, Asset, is used for the comprehensive management of a wide range of digital assets on Balance, providing easy-to-use tools for asset creation and trading.

The token layer is designed for core operations involving the platform’s native EPT token. This layer supports the use of EPT for in-game purchases, access to services and AI companions, Fan Token minting and trading, in addition to other functionalities.

This is the underlying infrastructural layer that powers the platform’s operational mechanism. It can be described as Balance's operating system, and is made up of several critical components: the node system, the Balance

The Balance stablecoin, also part of the infra layer, is designed to reduce volatility and bring rate stability to the platform's gaming ecosystem. The Balance stablecoin system helps players engage in asset trading without the fear of wild market fluctuations, an important consideration in the 

Designed to support multiple chains, Balance Chain operates based on dynamic protocol adaptation, automatically selecting the optimal blockchain platform according to user preferences and needs. The final major component of the Balance infrastructure layer, the Balance ID system, is a unified and secure user authentication and identity management solution. EPT is the native cryptocurrency of Balance. Although the platform has been operational since 2024, the EPT token was just launched on Apr 21, 2025, with a total and maximum supply of 10 billion. A trend is significant in financial trading because all trading strategies work well when they go along with the trend. Conversely, the price can create new swing levels in a ranging market with multiple false breakouts that often make trading difficult. 

The Aroon indicator shows when a price changes its sentiment from trending to ranging. It determines how long the price holds its momentum after reaching new highs or lows. It is easily visible on the indicator window, with the Aroon Up and Aroon Down lines. Note that, like other indicators, there is a slight lag with the Aroon indicator.

The Aroon Indicator is a trading tool that shows whether a price is trending or in a range. If the Aroon Up line crosses over the Aroon Down line, market sentiment is bullish, and when vice-versa, bearish.

Traditional momentum oscillators indicate when buying and selling pressures move to an extreme level, from which a reversal is highly expected. Therefore, it is often less profitable to make trading decisions based on indicators like 

, or ADX. On the other hand, using the Aroon indicator will give you a clearer view of the market sentiment, especially when the new trend will start.

In the above example, we can see the 15-minute chart of 

, where the Aroon indicator is shown in a separate window as it moves from zero to 100. Here, the blue line is Aroon Up, and the red line is Aroon down, as marked in the image.

If you look at the indicator carefully, you’ll see that these lines are shifting their positions frequently. Every position change happens with a crossover, which is the most significant part of this indicator. 

Later on, we’ll look at a current price chart based on where the Aroon Down and Aroon Up are heading.

The Aroon indicator calculation focuses on high and low prices over a given period. The primary indicator formula is as follows:

According to the Aroon calculation, the Aroon Up measures how long buyers hold their positions since the price recorded a new high within the period specified. Its value will reach 100 once the current candle’s high is the highest. Otherwise, it will return to the percentage value pointing out the time since a new high occurred.

On the other hand, Aroon Down measures how long sellers hold their positions since the price recorded a new low within the period specified. Its value will reach 100 once the current candle’s low is the lowest. Otherwise, it will move to the percentage value pointing out the time since a new low occurred.

The primary period of this indicator is 14, but traders can easily change this according to their trading style.

The Aroon Indicator is available for most trading platforms, 

. Like other momentum-based indicators, it is displayed in a separate window below the price chart.

So far, we’ve talked about how this indicator can show whether a price is trending or ranging. However, like other indicators, there is no guarantee that the Aroon indicator will show a confirmed movement. Traders should know how to best use this indicator by reading it correctly.

The Aroon indicator oscillates between 0 and 100, where a level of 70 to 100 is considered as a trending market, and 0–30 is regarded as a ranging market.

In this section, we’ll use a step-by-step approach to analyze a digital asset with the Aroon indicator.

When the Aroon Up moves above the Aroon Down, it indicates that buyers have become stronger than sellers. They are already starting a bullish trend.

The above image shows Bitcoin’s price moving higher as soon as a crossover occurs in the Aroon indicator. The price rejects the bears at the $48,000 

, and starts a bullish trend that takes the price straight to the $59,000 level.

In step 1, we’ve seen how a bearish trend shifts to bullish, but it is not enough to consider it valid. We need to wait for the Aroon Up to approach 100 before we can validate the crossover. Remember that Aroon Up will reach 100 only when the price creates a new swing high.

In the above image, we can see the same Bitcoin chart. After the crossover, the Aroon Up reaches 100 and the price starts to move higher, indicating that the bullish trend is strong.

When the Aroon Up reached 100, the bullish trend became strong.

The bullish trend will remain strong as long as the Aroon Up’s value stays between 70 and 100. Later on, if the Aroon Up drops down and crosses below the Aroon down, the bullish trend will start to lose momentum.

Here we can see that the Bitcoin price is moving up by creating higher highs while the Aroon Up remains between 70 and 100. Once the Aroon Up moves below the Aroon Down, the price shifts its direction from bullish to bearish.

It is an indication that buyers are losing their momentum, and traders should close their buy positions or take some profits.

The same market sentiment is applicable to the bearish market, where a strong price direction is set by the following conditions:

In the above example, we can see how the Aroon indicator works as a bearish price. The trend shifts its direction once the Aroon Down moves above Aroon Up and reaches 100.

Later on, the trend becomes weaker once the Aroon Down moves below Aroon Up, and the price starts to move higher.

Indicators Best Paired with the Aroon Indicator

The Aroon indicator has all the necessary qualities to work as a strong price barometer, but it is not wise to rely on this indicator alone.

In financial trading, we anticipate price movement based on multiple calculations. When the probability is high, the price has a higher chance of following the direction. Therefore, we can stack the odds in our favor when we combine multiple indicators based on their performance.

It is not logical to simply use any random indicator with Aroon because there is no guarantee that together they will work or be profitable.

Based on the previous performance and backtesting, Aroon indicators work well with the following indicators.

 the average price of a specified period’s candles. Therefore, when the price moves above 20 EMA (Exponential Moving Average), we can consider the underlying trend to be bullish.

In the meantime, if the Aroon indicator shows the same price direction, we can consider the trade valid.

The above image shows that the price rejects a dynamic 20 EMA while Aroon Down is at 100. Therefore, the price comes down from $50,000 to $31,000 in a single swing.

. When MACD and Aroon provide the same direction, you can consider the trend direction as strong.

In the above image, the Aroon Up is bullish at 100, while the MACD histogram is bullish and making new highs. As a result, the price continues the bullish pressure by creating new swing highs.

Later on, the bullish sentiment weakens once the MACD histogram and the Aroon indicator show a bearish signal together.

, and indicators. Therefore, if you want to make a buy trade based on the price rejection from any dynamic or static support level, you can use the Aroon indicator as a confirmation of the entry.

First, find the price direction based on your price action strategy and wait for the Aroon indicator to confirm the signal. If Aroon Up shows a buy signal, enter the trade.

The above image shows that the Aroon Up displays a buy signal by moving to 100. On the next day, the price moves lower and rejects sellers at the event level. As a result, the price moves up with strong bullish pressure.

There is no indicator in the world that will guarantee you a 100% profit. Moreover, any trend-following strategy works well when the price is reaching new highs or lows. On the other hand, in a volatile market, any reversal trading strategy works well.

The strength of the Aroon indicator is that it works well in both trending and ranging markets. However, this tool can also generate profitable signals when the price is moving within a trend.
